About the client

As resident complexity and costs rose, Alphington Lodge in Exeter was looking for ways to improve compliance standards, reduce growing staff workloads and improve care decision-making. They knew that parts of their business could do with AI technology to ease the burden on managerial and care staff in the realms of care planning and risk assessments and to adhere to policies and best practice guidance 

Challenge

The home was spending countless hours on compliance reporting and compliance checks. Carers were spending significant time updating care plans. Management were juggling various dashboards, documents and policies, and sifted through lengthy resident logs in search of potential issues. This was creating a complex environment that required intensive effort from everyone to ensure the highest standards of care 

Solution

Carey quickly integrated their Log-My-Care software as a convenient browser extension. The download process was seamless, and within minutes, they were up and running. A brief training session for a handful of staff members fully equipped them to utilize the software effectively. 

The intuitive design meant staff were able to train others. 

Their account manager stayed in regular contact and was able to help them learn also to set up custom reports. 

With Carey, seniors were able to receive real time information about resident care history when doing their care plan updates. Handovers were automatically generated and then just had to be tweaked by the shift leader, rather than built from scratch each shift, in the traditional way. Care plan updates became a breeze as seniors and managers had access to complete resident histories and suggestions for changes from Carey, as they typed. The daily, weekly and monthly checks run by Management were 80% automated through Carey’s reporting capabilities in a matter of hours. 

Impact

The plug-and-play nature meant several of the benefits were felt immediately. Others were realised over time as the software was customised further. 

Over two months, it is estimated the manager saves nine hours per week in doing audits and chasing her staff as error rates have dropped.
